Statue in honor of Lic. Carlos Cuesta Gallardo for the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara
The creation of the statue in honor of student leader Carlos Cuesta Gallardo, created by Art21Studio for the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, was carried out using the traditional lost-wax casting process. This method begins with the modeling of the figure at full scale, using expanded polystyrene, fabrics, and modeling clay, allowing for the definition of each feature and texture that represents the legacy of the honoree. The piece is then molded using silicone rubber and fiberglass, from which a wax is obtained and covered with refractory material to form a second, durable mold.
Once the mold is dry, it is carefully heated so that the wax melts and flows out, leaving a void exactly like the original sculpture. Molten bronze is then poured into the mold, filling the space left by the wax. After the metal cools and solidifies, the refractory mold is fractured and removed, revealing the statue's final form. Finally, the Art21Studio team meticulously cleans, polishes, and finishes the piece to ensure its artistic fidelity and lasting brilliance.
This artisanal process, executed with dedication and respect, results in a unique work that honors the memory and example of Lic. Carlos Cuesta Gallardo, becoming a permanent symbol on the campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara.
