Javier Pulido

Super cart.

As part of a rich collaboration with the renowned Mexican artist Javier Pulido, whose career is distinguished by a constant conceptual exploration and a sharp social critique in contemporary national art, a work was developed that challenges the boundaries of everyday life through humor and reflection.

The project involved intervening a common object—a supermarket cart—by extending it to unusual dimensions that transcend its original functionality. To achieve this, a standard commercial cart was purchased, and a roughly 2-meter extension was designed and built, using durable materials and assembly techniques to ensure both solidity and aesthetic integrity in the result. Once the extension was installed, the cart reached a total length of over 3 meters, becoming a visually striking and deliberately impractical artifact.

The piece was exhibited in a carefully selected space, where its satirical character was accentuated by filling it to excess with an inordinate amount of toilet paper. This action, far from being a mere playful gesture, aims to question patterns of consumption, accumulation, and the culture of excess today, inviting viewers to rethink their relationship with objects and their surroundings.

Javier Pulido, a graduate of the National School of Fine Arts and with a prominent presence in both national and international exhibitions, has directed his artistic practice toward experimentation with installations, altered objects, and performative actions. His work is characterized using irony and provocation as resources to generate critical dialogues on current issues, establishing him as a relevant voice in the contemporary Mexican art scene.
