Rafael Levy

Sculpture in stainless steel and polymers.

The creation of this abstract sculpture represents an outstanding collaboration between Art21Studioand artist Rafael Levy, merging artistic innovation and technical excellence in the execution of large-scale pieces. This work is composed of two main elements that evoke intertwined sailboat sails in a dynamic spiral, achieving a visual synergy that conveys movement and harmony.

The first component is crafted from a triangular mesh, meticulously made with polished stainless steel round rods measuring ¼ inch thick. This structure not only provides strength and durability but also allows light to interact with its surface, creating reflections and shadows that enrich the visual experience of the piece.

The second sail, made from a textured white polymer material, is inspired by the appearance of beach sand, creating a subtle and elegant contrast with the metallic sheen of the steel. The surface treatment of this polymer not only adds to a tactile dimension but also reinforces the dialogue between materials, inviting viewers to discover new sensations through observation and proximity.

Both elements are outlined by a contour of 2” round stainless-steel tubing, rolled into precise curves that shape the spiral and unify the composition. This technical feature allows the work to maintain visual lightness despite its scale, integrating harmoniously into its environment.

The sculpture is placed on a raised ramp that appears to float above a reflecting pool, providing a sense of suspension and enhancing the interaction between the piece, natural light, and water reflections. This arrangement heightens the contemplative nature of the artwork, inviting viewers to appreciate it from multiple angles and perceive the relationship between art, space, and nature.
