Luis Espiridion

Image of plastic work.

Luis Espiridión began his artistic journey at a very young age, experimenting with crayons and plasticine. It was during his adolescence that he realized art would become his lifelong passion. Four decades later, art continues to define his life.

He developed a unique and distinctive style that he refers to as "two-dimensionality," through which he expresses his concerns and observations about society. His works, created in both bronze and polymers, often feature everyday elements that deepen the message of the piece. His figurative bronze works are easily recognizable, though he occasionally creates abstract pieces in polymer.

His work is known for its asymmetrical scaling of shapes, where the frontal dimensions remain relatively proportional while the depth is minimized. In a sense, his sculptures are like floating reliefs, subtly detached from the wall.

In the 1980s, Luis studied sculpture at the Instituto Cultural Cabañas in Guadalajara, Mexico. After completing his studies, he traveled to the United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, Egypt, and Italy in 1989 to expand his knowledge of sculptural and pictorial techniques. Upon returning to Mexico, he opened a jewelry and sculpture workshop, where he produced his work for several years. In 1993, he traveled to Spain to continue his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Granada under the guidance of Juan Manuel García. The following year, he took a bronze casting course at Comerden University in Wales, UK. Since then, he has collaborated with various art and foundry workshops in Guadalajara, including Art21Studio.
