Daniel Kent

Daniel Kent is a self-taught visual artist, originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco. He has an extensive career in the art world, creating both pictorial and sculptural work. He has collaborated in literature, illustration, dance and theater. His work has been exhibited both nationally and abroad.
His work has been transformed over the years, thanks to the constant experimentation with which Daniel has worked, starting with classical techniques in his youth such as tempera. Over the years, this experimentation has led him to develop a somewhat surreal figurative style full of symbolism. He uses a fantastic realism that is born from chaos, which with his experience he manages to direct to create fauns, magicians and female figures in Dantesque settings, who interact with imaginary animals or observers of medieval appearance.
Kent is one of the first artists to accompany Francisco Quiroz in those initial experiments of Art21Studio, more than 40 years ago, with which he began to merge chemistry with plastic arts. Experiments that resulted in a formulation of polymeric oils for exteriors with which Daniel has created large-format works, one of which is installed in the Mexico City subway and another on the exterior wall of the Raúl Anguiano MURA Museum.
One of the latest projects underway with Daniel is the monumental sculpture entitled “Chemical Weddings”, a work 8 meters high, made of bronze. The mold is currently complete and there is a full-scale replica in polymers, which was exhibited in 2022 for several months on the esplanade of the Santander complex of the University of Guadalajara, Jalisco.
This series of works of a similar format are tributes to female characters who have influenced and inspired Daniel throughout his life.
